The jackfruit (alternately jack tree, jakfruit, or sometimes simply jack or jak; Artocarpus heterophyllus), is a species of tree in the Artocarpus genus of the mulberry family (Moraceae). It is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia, and is believed to have originated in the southwestern rain forests of India, in present-day Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Maharashtra. The jackfruit tree is well suited to tropical lowlands, and its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit, reaching as much as 80 pounds (36 kg) in weight, 36 inches (90 cm) in length, and 20 inches (50 cm) in diameter.

Economic Use of Jackfruit

• The tree of jackfruit can also be used as a reforestation, intercropping, agro-forestry and a great shade during sunny weather.

This fruit thrives well in tropical climates like in Southeast Asia and other portions of America. The best thing about jackfruit is it can grow in any kind of soil and it prefers well-drained, clay or sandy soils. This fruit cannot tolerate a soil with poor drainage. Jackfruit is usually propagated in various ways such as seeds, inarching, budding, grafting and marketing.

কাঁঠাল খুব উপকারী ফল। দামের তুলনায় এত বেশি পুষ্টি উপাদান আর কোন ফলে পাওয়া যায় না। কাঁচা কাঁঠাল তরকারি ও পাকা কাঁঠাল ফল হিসেবে খাওয়া যায়। এছাড়া কাঁঠালের বীজ ময়দা ও  তরকারি হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয়। কাঁঠালের পাতা ছাগলের প্রিয় খাদ্য। কাঁঠালের ছোবড়া গরুর প্রিয় খাদ্য। এছাড়া কাঁঠাল কাঠ দিয়ে উন্নতমানের আসবাবপত্র তৈরি করা হয়। তাই কাঁঠালের চাহিদা প্রায় সারাবছরই থাকে। কাঁঠাল চাষ করে পারিবারিক পুষ্টির চাহিদা পূরণ করার পাশাপাশি বাড়তি আয় করাও সম্ভব। এছাড়া দেশের চাহিদা মেটানোর পর অতিরিক্ত উৎপাদন বিদেশে রপ্তানি করা সম্ভব। এক্ষেত্রে বিভিন্ন রপ্তানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান সহায়তা দিয়ে থাকে। কাঁঠাল বিদেশে রপ্তানি করার জন্য এসব প্রতিষ্ঠানের সাথে যোগাযোগ করা যেতে পারে।   

ফসল তোলা: ফল পাকতে ১২০-১৫০ দিন সময় লাগে। সাধারণত জ্যৈষ্ঠ- আষাঢ় মাসে কাঁঠাল সংগ্রহ করা হয়।
